Week one (Lets Hear Your Opinions)

So here we are with the beginning of something I think we can all get excited about. This will become a weekly thing involving 5 different artists. Everyone can comment on any of the artists or all of the artists that they want too. I will email everyone with a link to my blog each week the five artists. This was all inspired from Bryan's blog about Texas music. We will go beyond just Texas music and open this up to anything that applies to good music. Under the umbrella of country,alt.country,american,celtic,blues,jazz..but mainly anything that has country infused with anything that sounds great. We all know some of the best music can't be classified because its(key word)ORIGINAL..This will also allow some of us closed minded individuals(myself included) to learn more about an artist or even listen before we comment. Feel free to post website links to the artists or to articles you have found about the artists. Have Fun!!

Week One:

1. Asylum Street Spankers
2. Bob Schneider
3. Shooter Jennings
4. Django Walker
5. Tom Skinner

1. Asylum Street Spankers http://www.asylumstreetspankers.com/
From what i know of the spankers is not a whole lot. I've heard their music on the radio but probably only a small portion of what they have to offer. Rockabilly would probably sum it up.

2. Bob Schneider http://www.bobschneidermusic.com/

Ok I don't own any albums but I've listened to a lot of this guys work. He is definitley one of my favorites that I have really yet to get into (probably because i already own too many cd's.)Also has one of the cooler websites around. And if you get a chance seeing this guy live is well worth it..especially a keyboard player like you've never seen!

3. Shooter Jennings http://www.shooterjennings.com/flash/index.html
Well first off obviously this is the son the late GREAT Waylon Jennings. But after visting the website I was little displeased to see now touring with Toby Keith..hey whatever I guess..I'm going by a song I heard that I thought was a cool jam (4th of July) check it out if you get a chance. Never seen this guy live but would definitely go see him!

4. Django Walker...find his website yourself..this guy has some decent written material and if sung by the right person might be pretty good. Someone does a cover (not phat green) of one of his songs about a "pretty young girl sits at the front of the class..." don't know who sings it but it rocks. Other than being Jerry Jeffs son he really doesn't do much for me..I've watched him become basically embarassed on the guitar in an acoustic song swap setting several times. If you do see this guy make sure its the full band and at some kind of festival.

5. Tom Skinner http://members.aol.com/straycatm/tomskinner.htm
Tom is pretty much a lengend in the Oklahoma scene. He has influenced several notible musicians such as Mike Mclure. He has played with the Garth..I'm sure he's real proud of that..but seriously this guy sings some powerfull stuff and will sit you down and chill that spine of yours. He hits home probably more so than any other I have listened too acoustically. Has a baseball song that rocks. Some of you may remember the old great divide rendition of "there used to be a place to go dance in this town...etc.." He wrote this..check him out sometime..you may see him playin' bass with MMB..

Till next week keep those coments and suggestions coming.

Artists suggested for next week:
-Shawn Nelson and the Ramblers
-Old Crow Medicine Show

Oh and a little side note..its 50 cent not 50 cent(s)...made that mistake the other day!!
